Holloway Consulting is a leading Construction Consultant providing services to U.S. and International clients, including law firms, public agencies, developers, owners, design professionals, construction managers, general and trade contractors. We are experts in all types of construction scheduling and contractor and owner claims, including those examined at Construction Claims.

Holloway Consulting receives numerous requests and inquiries from clients and subscribers to our newsletter for claims, schedule and delay-related information, including attorneys, owners and architects who are periodically involved in claims, disputes, schedule and delay-related disputes. In response to these requests, Steve Holloway published a series of articles on construction project scheduling, covering its use in both project management and contract dispute resolution. These articles were first published in 1999 and are being published here at hcgpexerts.com.

Critical Path Method (CPM) project scheduling methods have been used for planning, scheduling and monitoring of capital projects for over thirty years. CPM schedules are also applied extensively by Construction Schedule Experts in retrospective claims analyses to demonstrate the causes of and responsibilities for schedule delay, disruption or acceleration. The purpose of this series of pages is to present an overview of CPM scheduling concepts and fundamentals. Many scheduling topics mastered by Construction Claims Experts will be addressed here including:

  1. Contract scheduling requirements and provisions,
  2. CPM methods most commonly used for the preparation of contemporaneous time extension requests associated with change orders or for retrospective delay analysis associated with claims, and
  3. Case law affecting the preparation of change orders, schedule analyses and claims.
